Texas CPA Exam Requirements

Strict adherence to Texas CPA requirements is necessary in order to make the CPA exam process go as smoothly as possible. We’ve compiled the CPA requirements for Texas in order to help students prepare and ensure they’re fully qualified to sit for the Texas CPA exam. This way, for students in Texas, CPA review courses are not invested in without full confidence that they’ll be able to continue on to a successful CPA career!

Credit Requirements: 150 semester units (225 quarter units)
Minimum Degree: Baccalaureate with 150 semester units
Additional Requirements: 30 hrs or equivalent quarter hrs of ACCT courses (15 hours requires physical attendance on campus; 2 credit hours required in accounting or taxation research and analysis). 24 upper level hrs in business courses. 3 hrs of Board-approved Ethics course

Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship is not required
Minimum Age: None
Additional Requirements: It is not necessary to be a resident, employee, or keep office(s) in the state

License Requirements
Social Security Requirement:
Educational Requirement: 150 Semester hours
Participates in International Exam Program: Yes
Experience Requirements: 1 year work experience defined as diversified non-routine accounting gained through client practice of public accountancy, industry, government, law firm, education, or internship (which is a case-by-case approval). Self-employment is not acceptable unless approved by the Board.
Ethics Exam: Must pass exam on Texas Rules of Professional Conduct
